What are anchors in hypnosis and how can we use them to better our lives?
September 4th, 2020
I have had some significant dreams lately but first I’d like to talk about anchors.
An anchor is neurological link to a desired state. The anchor is used to bring this trance-state or subconscious state into our conscious, waking state. The anchor allows you to go back and capture that state of being again and again.
For example: If, at the moment you are feeling empowered, clear and strong, you can make a gesture of a closed fist, you can connect or link this closed fist with the feeling of empowerment and induce this feeling again. The more you repeat the anchor the more it's anchored!
You can also repeat a phrase to yourself to connect to that feeling and be your anchor.
“I am strong and powerful, I am safe.”
One could then induce this feeling again by creating the gesture or saying the phrase to oneself.
A key point would be not to do this if you are far away from the feeling of being empowered, clear and strong, i.e. you are in a state of anxiety or fear. The reason being is that you may unwittingly create an anchor for an undesired feeling.
The timing of the anchor and the emotion you are experiencing are very important.
An anchor can also be used to remember something.
I had a dream last night that clearly illustrated this:
It was a dream of abundance. I dreamt my mom and my brother went on a huge shopping trip and came back with a truck, like a moving van, full of food and all kinds of wonderful things. This truck was packed, truly and wonderfully flowing and abundant. I saw a shiny new bicycle in the truck but it was caught in a fan, so I needed to turn off the fan to untangle my bike. As I was turning off the fan in my dream I woke up.
As is my morning ritual, I have a fan right next to my bed and I turn it off every single morning. As I performed this simple and engraved task the whole dream came flooding back to me and I knew the fan in the dream was an anchor so that I would remember this dream.
One idea, or feeling, attracts other ideas or feelings of the same vibration, as in the law of attraction, and I found myself deeply reflecting on how much my mom, my parents, have given me even long after their passing.
I made a gratitude list then and there of how “follow the money” worked in this regards. It was something like this:
I inherited a substantial amount of money from my parents passing, later I invested in the stock market with my help of my other brother, and then at the right time I bought a home on the sea in Spain.
My book about that time:

I then sold my beloved home on the sea and got enough money to buy my camper van, which I lived in for a while and when that became too small I still had enough left to buy the trailer home I presently live in. When I sell this home I’ll have the money again from that!
This is precisely why remembering my dream was so important to me, to muster up this gratitude and appreciation for my parents still taking care of me.
